Chester County Clerk of Orphans’ Court Goes Above and Beyond

A problem for many clients suffering from illness or the ravages of old age is that they are not physically able to travel to their Chester County estate planning lawyer’s office. Pennsylvania has by statute addressed this problem by allowing lawyers to witness a client’s signature, and then take that to document to a notary and have the document notarized.

I have done this many times, which saves the client the cost of having a notary travel to the house. The Clerk of the Chester County Orphans’ Court has also recognized this problem and offers the option of sending a person from her offices to travel to hospices, nursing facilities, hospitals, and private homes to notarize power-of-attorneys for those not ambulatory. This service is a blessing for those no longer able to travel on their own.
